Stars of the Lid Treated to Vinyl Reissues by Kranky
Published Jun 18, 2015Stars of the Lid may not have delivered a new album in eight years, but longtime label Kranky will be giving vinyl fans the chance to rejoice with a pair of newly repressed LPs. The label brings the Austin droners' The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid and follow-up effort And Their Refinement of the Decline back into print on August 14.
A note on Kranky's website confirms that the group's two most recent albums will be delivered in their original triple-LP format. Unfortunately, the label notes that printing, pressing and shipping costs have soared since the original copies landed, meaning both reissues are expensive. Pre-orders are currently listed at $52 CAN each, but Kranky states, "that cost is small compared to the enjoyment of listening to these absolute gems."
It should be kept in mind that resale websites like Discogs.com currently have OG copies of 2001's The Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid for sale around the $70 mark, while 2007's And Their Refinement of the Decline is priced at nearly $250.
Both albums received acclaim upon their original releases, with And Their Refinement of the Decline being the last official LP to arrive from the duo of Brian McBride and Adam Wiltzie. You'll find a stream of that record's closing number, "December Hunting for Vegetarian Fuckface," down below.
These mark the latest Stars of the Lid reissues from Kranky, with the band's 1997 entry The Ballasted Orchestra having received similar treatment in 2012.
In related news, Stars of the Lid will be playing a rare live show in Toronto on Friday (June 19) as part of the Unsound Festival before heading to Pop Montreal later this year.
