Remy Ma Beats Out Nicki Minaj for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at the BET Awards
Ma's victory marks the end of Minaj's seven-year winning streak
Ma took home the trophy for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, beating out Missy Elliott, Cardi B, Young M.A. and Minaj herself — who until last night's ceremony had held the title for an impressive seven consecutive years.
In her acceptance speech, Ma expressed her gratitude for getting a "second chance" and thanked her husband Papoose, as well as her business partner and Plata o Plomo collaborator Fat Joe, before spitting a few bars.
She later took to social media for a few extra thank-you messages.
Minaj, meanwhile, seems unperturbed by the upset. She took to Instagram yesterday just to casually share a massive list of accomplishments of her own, including an ASCAP award that earned her the title of "most awarded female rapper in history." Check out the impressive rundown of her own victories below.
Attention‼️ I love God. According to Universal Records, this year alone, my album catalogue sold 325K worldwide and #ThePinkprint is now at 4 Million worldwide‼️ Since January, I've received 11 billboard entries, and yesterday with that ASCAP award, I became the most awarded female rapper in history‼️To top it all off, this year I received the title for most Hot 100 entries by any woman in the HISTORY of MUSIC. A title previously held by Aretha Franklin for 40 years.👑 They don't want you to post your achievements & accomplishments. It makes them uncomfortable. But you must!
