Published Oct 29, 2020Legendary Canadian musician, songwriter and producer Daniel Lanois is getting ready to follow up to his 2016 solo album Goodbye to Language (and his 2018 collaboration with Venetian Snares). The new album is called Heavy Sun, and news of the record arrives alongside a new music video.
Heavy Sun was recorded in both Los Angeles and Toronto, and it's expected to offer a blend of "classic gospel and modern electronics."
In a press release, Lanois said, "We want to lift people's spirits with this music.... It's so easy to feel isolated right now, but we want everyone to feel included in what we're doing."
He continued: "Our goal was to be a force for good with these songs. We wanted to remind people not to let the world steal their joy, to remind them that even during a global pandemic, it's our responsibility to protect our spirits and find ways to keep on dancing, keep on singing, keep on teaching, keep on loving."
The album is expected to arrive in full in April 2021 via Lanois' new Maker Series imprint. Apparently, Lanois is still fine-tuning the record, and he plans to tease it with more new videos.
Until then, you can preview it with the "Under the Heavy Sun" video below.
