Published Jan 29, 2016The first act of the night at Michelangelo's Fireside Stage was local singer-songwriter Susannah "Susie" Forsyth. Her stage presence was commanding as she performed songs from her Repair EP. Forsyth's brand of song is forlorn acoustic pop/folk, the subject matter relationships gone wrong. There's a ferocity to her playing that's borderline abrasive at times.
Her songwriting could be more diverse when it comes to lyrical themes, but Forsyth shines when juxtaposing negative lyrics with major key melodies — a highlight was her rendition of an older song in her catalogue, "Stranger," on which she sings that, "I feel like a stranger in my own skin." It was one of many honest statements that heightened the experience of seeing her perform.
