Deerhoof Reveal 'The Magic,' Premiere New Song
After premiering their "Debut" video yesterday (April 18), long-loved San Fran art rock ensemble Deerhoof have now revealed the details for their next album. The band's 13th studio full length is called The Magic, and it materializes June 24 through Polyvinyl.

Described in a press release as "an album about what happens when you leave your comfort zone," the record apparently finds the quartet opting to skip a regular recording studio to track inside "an abandoned office space in the middle of the New Mexico desert." It's added that the band went into the sessions with no pre-conceived notions of what would transpire.

The album is said to mix together elements of punk, pop, glam, hair metal, doo-wop, hip-hop, and R&B, with drummer Greg Saunier noting in a statement that the music reflects "what we liked when we were kids — when music was magic — before you knew about the industry and before there were rules."

He added of the record's more spandex-fitted material: "Sometimes hair metal is the right choice."

Below, you'll find the full tracklisting for The Magic. There, you'll also find a stream of clap-happy, proto-punk blazer "Plastic Thrills," courtesy of NPR.

While Deerhoof had issued the Fever 121614 live LP at the end of 2015, The Magic is the outfit's first full-length studio release since 2014's La Isla Bonita.
