Published Jun 26, 2012The Black Keys got pretty pissed when Home Depot and Pizza Hut allegedly misappropriated a couple of their songs for some commercials, but we're guessing the blues duo will be pretty amped on veteran soul singer Bettye LaVette's take of Brothers number "I'm Not the One."
Both versions play similarly, simmering on a slow groove, organ licks and reverb-soaked six-string leads, but LaVette's seasoned, smoky delivery on the tune comes across a little more harrowing and heartbreaking than Dan Auerbach can deliver. No diss, it's just LaVette's interpretation hits a little harder.
"I find it interesting and thoroughly entertaining to add age and experience to young writers' songs and inhabit them myself," LaVette told Rolling Stone. "I'm not sure what he was talking about, but I'm saying don't fuck with me."
The video, meanwhile, plays kind of like a karaoke clip, with shadowy lyrics streaming atop some well-worn musical equipment. You can check it out below courtesy of Rolling Stone.
